2022 Hawaii State AAUW Convention Summary
The 2022 Hawaii State AAUW Convention was held the weekend of September 30th and October 1 and 2, 2022. The venue was the Kilauea Military Camp located in the Volcanoes National Park on Hawai’i Island. The 75 AAUW members and supporters in attendance came from Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the mainland.
The theme of this year’s convention was Climate Change and Its Impact on Women. Our speakers addressed issues such as Plastic Pollution, Agroforestry, Climate Change and Equity, Title IX, and Advocacy.
Additionally, speakers shared the history of the Volcanoes National Park, and walks were led by local naturalists. Saturday morning began with a Kumu Hula delivering a blessing for the gathering and a Hula Halau performing hula. Saturday evening concluded with star gazing with astronomers from the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy and hot chocolate with s’mores.
This convention served as a gathering event for AAUW members, leaders and supporters to share ideas, concerns and hopes for the future of Hawaii State AAUW.
